New Mills Carnival, 2004
The “Swizzelling Sixties”
The day started at 6.00am on a damp and windy morning.  An enthusiastic team of dedicated helpers were getting “stuck in” to make our float the “Swizzelling Sixties”.  Spirits were very high and the banter was one of fun, fun, fun.

By 10.30am the disco and the participants for the float had arrived.  There were many characters such as Austin Powers, Marilyn Monroe and the Bee Gees.  Our Fancy Dress Prize went to the hippy “peace Man”.  Every-one looked great.

The procession started at 1.00pm.  By that time the sun was trying to come out and we were raring to go.  Along the route we handed out sweets to the children and adults.  At time it was like being the “Pied Piper”.

We didn’t win a prize but we had a fantastic time putting it all together and taking part.

Swizzels Matlow Silver Trophy
Badminton Tournament

Over 150 young badminton players turned up for the 25th Anniversary of the Swizzels Matlow Silver Trophy Badminton Tournament at Hazel Grove Recreation Centre on 21 October.

Many schools and age groups from under eleven to under eighteen were represented and Mr Andrew Matlow from the New Mills based sweet manufacturer was delighted to attend and present the numerous trophies to the successful players and schools.

The same organizing committee of the Stockport Badminton Coaches Association has been arranging this half term treat for school children for the past 25 years after its inception to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, and during this period hundreds of children have taken part and enjoyed the sweet taste of success.

Stockport and the surrounding areas continue to be a hot bed for badminton and a number of local players have achieved county and international honours

New Mills Carnival, 2002
Kings and Queens of Lollipops!!
Seeing as it was the year of the Royal Jubilee, we thought that it would be very apt to theme our float – Kings and Queens.

We had Queen Guinevere, Queen of Hearts, Anne Berlin, Henry VIII, Elvis – the King of Pop, King Arthur, Cleopatra and many more.

We really got into the “royal swing” of it – with beheadings and Thrones, Knights and Majestic music.  Once again great fun was had by and the crowds that followed us just loved the sweets.

New Mills Carnival, 2001
The New Mills Carnival took place on Saturday, 9th June, 2001.

Grey skies did not prevent over forty employees dressing themselves up and a delivery lorry to create a float which represented Swizzels Matlow Limited.

Their efforts were rewarded when carnival judges gave them an award and the company judges gave top accolade to "POP" and "CORN" and the rest of the Popcorn team; although everybody present deserved praise for the effort that they had so obviously put in to represent the Company's products

This was the first float for many years that the
Company had entered in the Carnival procession,
but we are sure it will not be the last

Comic Relief, 2001

The Swizzels Matlow team had a "Red Hat Day" to raise money for Comic Relief.

Swizzels Matlow's Fund Raising Team came to work in fancy dress for the day.

We had the Three Degrees singers, an Angel and a Devil, a Baseball Player, one Sheep Farmer, Ms Bet Lynch, and a Deep Sea Diver.

Mr Jenkinson (yes I did say 'MR' !!) explained how to train dogs the Woodhouse Way.

Children In Need Appeal, 1998
Pudsey had his own special Love Hearts sweets, made just for him and the BBC Children in Need appeal.

Nici Matlow and Andrew Matlow delivered a bucket full of Pudsey Love Hearts sweets, and looking at the smile on Pudsey's face, it would appear that Pudsey loves them.

The 'Swizzels Matlow Fund Raising Team' used their charms to collect  loads of cash for the Children in Need Appeal.
